Life has a funny way of throwing us into transitions—those moments of change that make us feel like we’re walking on a tightrope over a pit of uncertainty. A few weeks ago, God dropped a phrase into my heart: “Do not lose your footing in transition.” At the time, I had no clue what He meant. I nodded in my best “Yes, Lord” fashion, but internally, I was like, Um… okay? Sure thing, God.

Now, because I like to imagine myself as super spiritual, I naturally assumed this meant something big—like a miraculous breakthrough, a Red Sea parting, or at the very least, an epiphany that would change my life overnight. But fast forward a few weeks, and here I am, smack in the middle of a situation that has me feeling like I’m trying to stand on a balance beam… in an earthquake. Suddenly, that divine message is making a lot more sense.

What I now realize is that God wasn’t just offering me some poetic encouragement—He was warning me. The enemy is always lurking, waiting for moments of doubt to creep in, ready to shove us off balance the moment we start feeling uncertain. But how do we stand firm when life keeps shifting under our feet?

The Symbolism of Chaos and Stability

As I wrestled with this, God reminded me of something incredible. I’ve always loved anchors. I’ve collected them, worn them on jewelry, and been drawn to their symbolism without fully living out the symbol of faith as I’ve always imagined it to be. And as I write this, it hits me—God is my anchor.

In Scripture, water often symbolizes chaos, trials, and instability. From the formless, chaotic waters in Genesis to the storms that threatened the disciples, the Bible paints water as something that, without God’s intervention, can consume us. But what does God continually provide in the midst of the waters?

Dry land.

A firm foundation. A place to stand. A refuge in the storm.

  • In Genesis 1, God commands the chaotic waters to part, and dry land appears—a symbol of divine order and stability.
  • In Genesis 7-8, the floodwaters rise in judgment, but eventually, dry land emerges as a sign of renewal and God’s covenant with Noah.
  • In Exodus 14, the Red Sea is divided, and the Israelites walk on dry ground—God making a way through impossible circumstances.
  • In Joshua 3, the Jordan River stops flowing so God’s people can cross into the Promised Land on dry ground, marking a transition into their destiny.
  • In Jonah 2, after three days in the depths of chaos, Jonah is delivered onto dry land—a place of restoration.
  • And in Matthew 14, Peter steps out in faith onto the water, but the moment he loses focus, he begins to sink. Jesus reaches out and rescues him, becoming his firm foundation.

Time and time again, God provides stability in the midst of uncertainty. He is our anchor.

Why the Anchor Matters Now

This realization completely wrecked me in the best way. All my life, I’ve loved the idea of anchors, but I never fully grasped their significance until now.

An anchor doesn’t stop the storm. It doesn’t remove the waves. It doesn’t make the waters disappear. But it keeps the ship from drifting.

I need that anchor.

Life is constantly changing. The people around me are shifting. The circumstances I once felt secure in are evolving. And everything in my flesh wants to resist, to cling to what feels familiar. But God is reminding me that my security was never meant to be in the things around me. My security is in Him.

Building on a Firm Foundation

Remember Jesus’ parable of the wise and foolish builders? (Matthew 7:24–25) The wise builder lays his foundation on rock, while the foolish builder relies on shifting sand. Life will always throw storms our way, but only one foundation stands firm.

If I want to be anchored—truly unshakable—I have to build on Him.

  • It’s in the small, daily acts of faith that we fortify our foundation.
  • It’s in choosing prayer over panic, worship over worry, and faith over fear.
  • It’s in immersing ourselves in His Word, reminding our souls of His unchanging promises.
  • It’s in recognizing that even when life shifts, He never does.

Trusting in God’s Guidance

Transitions can stir up anxiety and doubt, especially when the future appears uncertain. God’s call to “be strong and courageous” isn’t just a pep talk—it’s a reminder that, no matter how wild the ride gets, we’re not alone. In Joshua 1:9, God tells us to step into every challenge with strength because He’s right there beside us, guiding our every step. And when I feel lost, I lean into that truth: Jesus isn’t just one way—He IS the way. His life, His sacrifice, and His promise light up the path ahead, just like a beacon when darkness threatens to overwhelm us. And let’s not forget Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Even when the road ahead is murky, I stand firm, trusting that His light makes the impossible possible and turns every uncertain step into a confident stride forward.

Rooting Yourself in Prayer and Scripture

Rooting myself in prayer and Scripture is like giving my soul a daily dose of nourishment. It’s those sacred moments—whether it’s a quiet morning chat with God or an evening dive into His Word—that help me build my inner strength. When I take time to pray, I’m not just talking into the void; I’m aligning my heart with His will, letting His peace seep into every part of my day. And when I immerse myself in Scripture, it’s like turning on a divine spotlight that guides my steps, reminding me of who I am and who I’m meant to be. In those moments, even when life feels overwhelming, I find that steady foundation that keeps me rooted, secure, and ready to face whatever comes my way.

Verses like 1 Corinthians 15:58 remind us to “stand firm” in our work for the Lord, which is a powerful nudge that our efforts matter—even when we feel overwhelmed. This steadfastness isn’t about relying on my own strength; it comes from staying connected to God’s Word and the community of faith that lifts me up. When everything gets a little too much, returning to prayer and Scripture re-centers me, restoring balance and giving me a fresh perspective on the bigger picture. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds me, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Embracing Growth Through Change

When I really think about it, I realize I’ve dealt with so much change in my life. And let me tell you—God isn’t just tossing change our way for fun; He’s busy molding us into the people He’s always meant us to be. I’ve always been the type who loves change—or at least, that’s what I convinced myself. Change of seasons, shift in patterns, bursts of innovation—I’m all in!

But here’s the twist: what I’ve learned about myself is that I can’t stand changing my people. I know my people inside and out. I know what makes them tick, what they love, and what they don’t. Yet now, God is allowing a transition that’s not just about me leveling up; it’s about changing my people too.

Everything in my bones is screaming, “NOOOOOOO!” at the thought of it. But if I’m ever going to grow—which is what I REALLY want and what I’m constantly asking God for—then I have to ride this wave. At the end of the day, I know He’s with me and He knows best. So I’m rolling with it and ready to rock the drift.

I like to think of it like this: a tiny seed has to break through the dirt before it can burst into a beautiful, flourishing plant. In the same way, shedding those old, worn-out patterns might be exactly what’s needed to step into a brand-new season of abundance. Embracing change with an open heart lets us learn, adapt, and ultimately build a resilience in our faith that’s downright unshakeable. I don’t know about you – but I am determined to be unshakeable.

Practical Steps to Stay Achored

So, how do we keep our footing when life feels like it’s straight out of a suspense thriller? Here are a few down-to-earth (and delightfully practical) tips:

  1. Deepen Your Daily Devotion: Carve out a little “me time” with God every day. Think of it as your spiritual espresso shot—energizing, grounding, and essential.
  2. Connect with Your Tribe: Surround yourself with fellow believers who are all about sharing, encouraging, and holding each other accountable. Remember, no one fights this battle solo.
  3. Reflect on God’s Faithfulness: Keep a little journal or mental highlight reel of all those times God came through. It’s like your personal victory montage when doubt tries to crash the party.
  4. Embrace Change as Part of the Plan: Instead of freaking out every time something shifts, see it as God’s way of nudging you toward growth. Each new chapter is a chance to live out His purpose in fresh, bold ways.

A Time for Reflection and Renewal
When life’s chaos has you caught in a whirlwind of change, take a beat. Ask yourself, “Am I building my life on the solid rock of God’s Word, or am I just dancing on the quicksand of my own plans?” This isn’t just a little self-check—it’s a full-on wake-up call. Renew your commitment to stand firm, knowing that every step taken in God’s truth is a step away from the enemy’s snares.

Jehovah Tsuri – The Anchor for Our Souls

Hebrews 6:19 says, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” That hope is Jesus. He is our Rock and our Anchor. Just like Noah, Moses, Joshua, and Peter, I’ve been stepping into a deeper realization that God is our Rock—our unshakable anchor when everything around us is shifting.

So as you move forward, keep holding onto Jehovah Tsuri—because He is holding onto you.

A Quick Prayer

Lord, in every storm, every season of change, and every moment of uncertainty, help me to remain anchored in You. When the waves rise and fear creeps in, remind me that You are my firm foundation. Keep my heart steadfast, my faith unshaken, and my eyes fixed on You. You are my Rock, my Jehovah Tsuri, and I trust You completely. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
